After four years of development, POWERADE has released its new Superior Bottle to provide Kiwi athletes with fast hydration.

Using a specialist team of product engineers, sports scientists and designers, work began to create a bottle that would improve customer experience and provide fast hydration. The bottle is now hitting shelves with a range of new features.

Not only is it made from a sustainable PET plastic that is 27 percent lighter than the former packaging, the foil seal has been removed to reduce unnecessary waste and improve usability. The bottle also features a more squeezable design and a high-flow sipper nozzle to give athletes fast hydration when it counts.

Across the Tasman, the Superior Bottle has been awarded three Australian Packaging Design Awards including the Gold Innovation Award, the Gold Sustainability Award and overall best in show. It has also been recognised by the World Packaging Organisation with a coveted World Star Award.

POWERADE ambassador Steven Adams, Oklahoma City Thunder NBA player, was among the first to try the new bottle.

“When I’m playing and training I need to be in the zone and focusing on my own game. I know hydration is important to my performance both on game-day and in training and the new bottle means it’s easier to get the electrolytes down when I need them,” he says.

BLACKCAPS captain and fellow POWERADE ambassador Kane Williamson is currently leading his side on a tour of India before the summer cricket season begins back home in New Zealand.

“Being involved in a summer sport we’re often playing in some really hot climates and can be out in the field for hours on end,” says Kane. “It’s crucial that we keep our fluids up. I think the new bottle innovation really helps, especially when you’re thirsty and need quick hydration.”

Jodie Timmins, POWERADE Brand Manager says, “Both Kane and Steven embody our commitment to sporting success. As professional athletes they’ve provided valuable insights into how they refuel pre, during and post training which has directly impacted on how we’ve designed the new bottle.

“POWERADE has a long established association with athletes of all levels and we’re constantly innovating to deliver a product that suits their lifestyles and needs,” she says.

POWERADE is also about to launch its latest TVC featuring Steven Adams, due to air on September 25. The TV ad will coincide with Out of Home (OOH) displays and digital content featuring both Steven and Kane, highlighting the new superior bottle benefits.

POWERADE’s Superior Bottle is used for all POWERADE products and is now available in stores, in 750ml & a new convenient 400ml bottle.
