exercises during pregnancy

Hello ladies, I've been getting into walking lately as I have a toddler who doesn't mind having sleep time during my walk (bonus!) but as I'm now pregnant, just wondering if there is a rule about how long I can exercise for or how hard. I'm hoping that an hour a day of walking isn't too much. I tried swimming when I was pregnant last time, but find it feels really weird almost as though I'm trying to tug my belly along!

Anyone else have any good pregnancy exercise tips?

The basic rule is that unless you have any complications you can continue doing whatever you were doing before you got pregnant. Avoid contact sports or anything like horseriding where you could fall, avoid lying on your back after your 1st trimester (keep your heart above your uteterus). Walking is fine. I have a 6 month old and carried on training at the gym, swimming, walking and doing yoga until a couple of weeks before my baby arrived which really helped with my recovery afterwards. Most importantly, listen to your body and stop or rest if you feel you need to.

Yoga during pregnancy is wonderful but do make sure that you attend classes with an instructor that has some experience with pregnancy yoga. There are number of asanas that may destabilize your pelvis if you are susceptible. The most important thing is to listen to your body and trust your instincts whatever the exercise you decide to do!
