The Tora Coastal Challenge

Running and walking enthusiasts will have a unique opportunity to explore stunning farmland and native bush along the spectacular south Wairarapa coastline this spring thanks to a new sporting event.

The Tora Coastal Challenge, set in the heart of one of New Zealand’s best loved private multi-day walks, the Tora Coastal Walk, will be held on Saturday, 6th September 2014 and feature a 6km or 18km run/walk or a 32km run. The Challenge is open to individuals or teams of three and will see participants cover the scenic route walked by hundreds of visitors every year.

“The Tora Coastal Challenge follows a stunning trail over private hill country and coastal farms, through river valleys and native bush and of course along the dramatic Tora coastline,” says Kiri Elworthy, one of the owners of the Tora Coastal Walk which will celebrate 20 years in business this October.

“It is the first time we have opened up the walk like this to the public so it’s a wonderful opportunity for people to come and see a unique part of New Zealand and challenge themselves at the same time.”

Kiri says all ages and abilities are catered for while all profits go to The Martinborough Community Centre Project. All participants start at the brand new Stony Bay Lodge on the Tora Coast, which is a 45 minute drive from the wine village of Martinborough.

“Not only is there a family-friendly 6km leg that follows the coastline, but the three-person team event is perfect for corporates wanting an office challenge or a group of friends wanting to tackle something new,” she says.

Entries are limited to 100 teams and 400 individuals, so register early to avoid disappointment. Registrations open July 1st.  To register visit www.toracoastalwalk.co.nz and be part of something special this September.
