Hundreds of buggies are set to stroll through the Wellington Botanic Gardens on Thursday 2nd October for Sport Wellington’s Big Annual Buggy Walk.

Now in its ninth year, The Big Annual Buggy Walk is the largest of the free Buggy Walks organised by Sport Wellington, occurring on the first Thursday of each month. The walks take place at a different location every month and aim to provide parents and caregivers with the opportunity to discover some of the many buggy friendly walking tracks throughout the Wellington region.

Last year over 1000 took part in the event which is hosted annually by Sport Wellington alongside the Greater Wellington Regional Council. The walk is featured as a part of the series of events in the Botanic Garden Spring Festival which celebrates the end of winter as spring flowers begin to bloom throughout the gardens.

The walk begins at The Dell before setting off to explore the surrounding gardens and bush tracks. Two walking tracks which vary in difficulty are mapped out, both of which loop back around to The Dell for more festivities.

The free event is run in association with a number of partners and sponsors, with Caffe L’affare providing hot coffee and a BBQ courtesy of Southern Cross Restaurant and Bar.’ A number of giveaways and competitions will be running throughout the day, while Kev the Kiwi, Fairy Felicity and jazz band ‘More Fun than the Library’ will keep the young ones busy with activities and entertainment.

Event Organiser James King says “it’s a lovely time of year at the gardens, we’re lucky to be able to provide our participants with such a picturesque environment to get out and get active with their little ones.”

“It’s a great day out for all, walkers can take it easy with a scenic stroll through the park or get involved in some of the activities and entertainment going on at The Dell,” adds King.

Participants are advised to arrive around 9.45am, with the walk set to take off at 10.30am. The event is completely free and with no registrations necessary, participants are encouraged to simply show up and enjoy the day.
