Dates Released for 2014/2015 National Talent Programme and Junior Selections - Regional Youth Academy in Auckland

Hot on the heels of the announcement of the 2014/15 Sovereign Tri Series, Tri NZ HP is pleased to confirm the recommended events for youth and junior triathletes for the summer of 2014/15.

The schedule includes a mix of junior and elite sprints, athletics and swimming events to challenge all those aspiring to high performance. The full 2014/15 schedule can be found by CLICKING HERE

The Oceania Junior Championships in Penrith (10 January) and the NZ Junior Championships in New Plymouth (22 March) will form the basis for selection to the NZ Team for the ITU World Junior Championships in Chicago in September (full selection policy to follow).

The National Talent Festival in February (incorporating Sovereign Tri Takapuna), will form the basis of selection for the National Talent Squad, in conjunction with recommendations from Regional Youth Academies and performances at National Secondary Schools Championships (triathlon, aquathlon, athletics, cross country, swimming). The 2015 Squad will be named after the NZSS Triathlon Championships at the end of March.

In addition, the Regional Youth Academies are gaining momentum, with dates available before Christmas all around the country.

·         Auckland & The North, 6-10 Oct, Auckland

·         Lower North Island, 18-19 Oct, Wellington

·         Central North Island, 5-7 Dec, Tauranga

·         Otago/Southland, 13-14 Dec, Gore

·         Canterbury, 15-19 Dec, Hanmer


Athletes interested in joining a Regional Youth Academy should email talentid@triathlon.org.nz, including their name, date of birth, region, 200m swim and 1500m run times, and coach and parent contact details.

The Academies culminate together in the National Talent Festival in Takapuna in February, with all athletes coming together from around the country.
