Only Human is undeniably pop while managing to challenge convention in its own way. It’s thoughtful, considered, celebratory and hugely uplifting. Heavy on pop bangers, this is also a record that encourages the listener to tune into the songs overall message of overwhelming optimism.

“I feel, for me, it’s my best work for many reasons. Looking back on everything that I’ve experienced personally, I think Only Human is a record that says ‘Have fun, we’re only human, fight on when things go bad cos it’s going to be fine again’. I’m proof of that and for people who have seen things I might have been through, they will know how much this means to me,” says Cheryl.

Only Human continues the cannon of Cheryl’s successful solo singing career, which includes four number one singles and two chart topping albums. In July of this year the debut single from Only Human, ‘Crazy Stupid Love’, not only soared straight to number one in the U.K with over 100,000 copies sold, but made chart history when Cheryl became only the third woman in British history to have four solo No.1s.

“The first album, it was brand new to me. Despite having seven years of experience, I felt like I had none. Not having your friends onstage with you, I was going through a lot of change… It was quite daunting, so I’ll always have a special place for ‘3 Words’. Messy Little Raindrops, I was literally on the floor. I hadn’t been very well, I was going through personal stuff so it wasn’t me at my best. My last record, A Million Lights, I absolutely love. I toured that album and I had the best time. But this one now, Only Human, I’m a woman, I know what I want, I know the songs are great and I’m excited for people to hear it. I’m not unsure of myself anymore and I guess that reflects in the album. I just want to bring a bit of light to people’s life with this album and hopefully give them a bit of hope and make them feel good. I just ultimately want it to be a great record that people love.”

On the new album Cheryl has worked with newcomers like Joel Compass, Electric and Red Triangle along with more established names like Wayne Wilkins (Beyoncé) - who worked with Cheryl on ‘Fight For This Love’ - Cass Lowe (Chance The Rapper), Lucas Secon (Britney, Kylie), The Invisible Men (Iggy Azalea), Bonnie McKee (Katy Perry), Sia (Rihanna) and Cheryl’s former bandmate Nicola Roberts.
