From Friday November 7 to Sunday November 9 at Auckland’s ASB Showgrounds, Big Boys Toys will play host to 160 of the most dynamic and awe-inspiring athletes in New Zealand as they compete for the 2014 BATTLE OF THE FITTEST title; New Zealand’s longest running CrossFit competition.

The ongoing fitness phenomenon and huge hit with the public, CrossFit Auckland will test the physical and mental strength of competing athletes across three days in order to produce the hard-won titles of New Zealand’s Fittest Man and New Zealand’s Fittest Woman.

“The incredible stamina of these athletes is something you have to see to believe,” says Big Boys Toys Exhibition Director Sandra Beacham. “They’re inspiring to watch and the crowd really gets in to support them – although it’s an individual pursuit, it’s the community behind each athlete that make this event really special”.

This year CrossFit Auckland event organisers are thrilled to announce CrossFit International Guests will be part of the competition line up; Australian ranked athletes Keegan Wolfenden and Vicki Webber and Russian Dmitry Klokov.

Dmitry has competed in several World Weightlifting Championships as well as the Summer Olympic Games and his incredible strength is well documented on numerous YouTube clips.
In the lead up to the event, competitors train across as many athletic tasks and disciplines as their lifestyle will allow in order to achieve the purpose of CrossFit which is to ‘train for the unknown and unknowable’.

CrossFit Auckland then tests the efficacy of their training methods and ranks them against New Zealand’s fittest in a competition considered ‘the event’ of the year with the top male and female from each club being invited to compete under the scrutiny of trained judges from the host club.

“We’re extremely proud of our member community, 70 volunteers train for around 3-months each year to help us run a professional event of the highest standards,” says CrossFit Auckland Event Manager Lisa O’Neill, co-owner of CrossFit Auckland.

“This year being our 6th BATTLE OF THE FITTEST event, we continue to not only raise support for our sport, but to give it credibility and provide a platform where high caliber athletes can test themselves at international standards” she says.

More announcements of show highlights and top international talent appearing at Big Boys Toys will follow in coming weeks.

Big Boys Toys is on at the ASB Showgrounds, Greenlane, Auckland, 7th – 9th November 2014. Further details are available at www.bigboystoys.co.nz and http://botf.crossfitauckland.com
