With technology at every turn, getting teens excited about being active can be tough. So it’s ironic that now one of the best ways to get teens active is through more technology - a smartphone app called Move60.

It’s been developed as part of Coca-Cola’s initiative to inspire 100,000 teens to be active for 60 minutes a day by 2020. No easy task, but Coca-Cola is on to a good thing with their handy new app.

Move60 is a fun biking app that motivates teens to get out and ride using gamification and prizes as incentives. With a whole range of monthly challenges to take on as well, this piece of technology is a great way to get your teen out of bed and excited about biking.

With the app, teens ride to be in to win awesome prizes like Go Pros, Rebel Sport vouchers and even Avanti Bikes!

How? Because all the riding they do using Move60 earns them points, these points send them higher up the leaderboard. And staying on top of the leaderboard increases their chance to win prizes!

Another feature is the Block Rider game. By riding around the neighbourhood on their bikes, teens claim real world territories, which are called “blocks” in the virtual world. They can even claim other riders’ “blocks”. That’s when things really start to heat up! More “blocks” means more points, which means more chances to win.

Right now, teens have already claimed over 6,000 blocks and travelled over 122,000 kms!

In addition, the app has new monthly challenges to tackle anything from hill training to exploring the neighbourhood. Completing monthly challenges not only earns them achievement badges that can be shared on Facebook, there’s bonus points to be won as well!

This month’s challenge is ‘District Master’. To complete it, teens need to create a “district” by claiming 3 “blocks” that connect together.

The initiative has even attracted the help of Olympic BMX silver medalist Sarah Walker, and more recently, actor and fitness enthusiast Pua Magasiva, to help spread the good word of getting active.

“The Move60 app is a great incentive to get outside and get moving,” says Pua, Move60’s resident bouncing ball of energy.

“Just activate the app when you go for a ride and you’re good to go.”

Sarah Walker, professional BMXer, naturally sees the benefits of daily biking: “For me, biking is more than just a way of staying physically fit and healthy; it boosts my mood and overall state of mind. I’m genuinely happiest when I’m training or out on the road.”

Both Sarah and Pua are completely committed to getting teens active and are first-rate examples of what a good dose of fitness can do for you. They’ve already helped inspire teens all across New Zealand to jump on their bikes and get active.

This year, Sarah has been traveling all over the country hosting events on road safety and obstacle riding. She’s even given away more than $60,000 worth of gear on behalf of Move60 to help kiwi teens get started.

One teen under the cycling spell is 13-year-old Ashleigh Thompson-Eyre from Cannons Creek. “It’s good fitness. It really works,” she laughed from on top of her new Avanti bike. This newly discovered love for biking was sparked after Ashleigh got to meet Sarah at one of her events, where she was given her new bike. “Up until that time she’s never been interested. I was excited for her,” says her mum.

But Move60 is more than just claiming blocks and building up those points, it’s about getting teens to discover a love for biking as they ride. There has never been a better time to get your teen involved and break away from the pack! Go to www.move60.co.nz, download the app and get them active!
