Wellington artist Maria Bozina’s first solo exhibition opens in the newly refurbished Thistle Hall Gallery, corner of Arthur and Cuba Streets on Tuesday, 27th January and runs through until Sunday, 1st February.

On show will be 12 large format paintings, the originals from Maria’s illustrated calendar of 2015 ‘Welly Through My Eyes’. The collection of contemporary surrealistic works feature daily life in Wellington through the seasons, with each work dedicated to a month of the year.

Maria Bozina was born in Serbia, grew up in Siberia and studied at the Biysk School of Fine Arts. On graduating she worked in advertising. In 2009, she and her husband emigrated to New Zealand and last year she completed a Bachelor of Creative Technologies at Weltec.

Maria says emigrating to this country has provided renewed inspiration for her art. “Coming to New Zealand brought fresh air in my life and refreshed my lifestyle. I had not been surrounded by bright light and such a multifaceted society before; the new environment enriches me emotionally and artistically everyday.”
