Tahiti Tourisme is inviting New Zealand travellers to discover their inner artist during a new five-night Tahiti tour, which follows in the footsteps of famous French painter Henri Matisse.

Departing April 28, 2015, the tour takes travellers to some of the places which inspired Matisse during his three month sojourn in Tahiti in 1930, including a visit to the Presqu’ile de Tairapu on Tahiti’s eastern peninsula where Matisse was invited to watch famous silent film Tabu being filmed.

Escorted by Nick Marsh, author of the ‘Matisse Puzzle’, travellers on the tour will walk in the artist’s footsteps as they visit the haunts that he frequented, explore the underwater lagoon vistas that Matisse described as ‘one of the seven wonders of the Paradise of painters’, and enjoy a private viewing of Tabu under the stars. More information available in this flyer.

The package includes five nights at Le Meridien Tahiti with breakfast daily, return economy flights with Air Tahiti Nui from Auckland, transfers in Tahiti, an art class, Tahiti touring and a Polynesian dinner show. Priced from $3890* per person twin share, the package also includes some meals and a black pearl per couple.

Tahiti Tourisme New Zealand Director Robert Thompson said the tour was a great opportunity for travellers to experience Tahiti through the eyes of a legendary artist.

“This is much more than just a tour, it’s a unique experience in which travellers can follow in the footsteps of a great artist and see the Tahiti that inspired some of his most vivid works. Hopefully those that take up this wonderful opportunity will be inspired by the colours and culture of the islands of Tahiti, just as Matisse was all those years ago,” Mr Thompson said.
