Marcel's Tandums a World First!

Marcel’s Tandums are a food category first, an original product that does not exist anywhere in the world. Marcel’s is the retail brand of Van Dyck Fine Foods from New Plymouth and Tandums are the latest addition to the Marcel’s very successful retail range.  “Tandums are our newest brain-child,” says CEO Marcel Naenen. 

In 1999 Marcel Naenen and Inge Vercammen moved from Belgium to New Plymouth and started Van Dyck Fine Foods. Marcel, an experienced bakery engineer in Europe, designed the factory and high-tech baking equipment himself.  Thirteen years later, Van Dyck Fine Foods’ factory is more than twice the size and a well-respected brand in the food service and consumer markets. 

Many readers will be familiar with Marcel’s other products, including hotcakes, mini hotcakes, plain crepes, sweet crepes, gluten free crepes and blinis for summer entertaining.

New Marcel’s Tandums are a fluffy indulgence with a delicious mascarpone filling. Each Tandum is individually free-flow wrapped for the consumer’s convenience. Once thawed simply unwrap and eat. Tandums must be eaten cold at all times.

“We worked with multiple consumer focus groups to help with the product name, packaging design, size and flavours. In doing so, five flavours were developed as the preferred options. For now the supermarkets have chosen to launch with Chocolate and Passionfruit. As sales grow, there is potential for more Tandum flavours” says Marcel.

Tandums are snacks on-the-go for mothers with children looking for a lunch box treat or an after school snack. Tandums fit perfectly into a school or work lunchbox. “Take one from the freezer and by lunchtime it will be delicious and pleasantly chilled. They also make a great snack-on-the-go or quick-&-easy dessert”, continues Marcel.

Single Tandums are to be found in the chiller section in the bakery of participating supermarkets. They have a five day chilled shelf life. Tandums are also available in passionfruit in a family friendly six pack in the freezer section of participating supermarkets.

Tandums have been created specifically for school tuck shops, convenience stores, gas stations, supermarkets, fast food chains and dairies.
