Stage One report – Trust House women’s tour of New Zealand

After an impressive teams presentation featuring the Kapa Haka cultural group from the Masterton intermediate school, the USA national team put an impressive performance on the road for today's team’s time trial on day one of the Trust House women’s tour of New Zealand in Masterton.

Holding an average speed of 47.8km/h for the 15km Time Trial, the USA team finished in a time of 18.49, eighteen seconds clear of their next closest competitors the Australian national team.  Megan Guarnier will wear the Leader’s yellow jersey into tomorrow stage while the U/23 leader jersey will be worn by Alexandra Manly from the Australian national team.

“We will defend the yellow jersey tomorrow, we are keen to keep it so really looking forward to tomorrow stage” said tour leader Megan Guarnier.

Team Tibco-SVB come in third place 1.05 behind the USA team.

The streets of Masterton played host to the start of New Zealand’s only UCI classified women’s tour today. This is the 7th occurrence of the Tour ran by Jorge Sandoval.  Over the five days of racing a total of 587km will be covered by the peloton.

Defending champion Evelyn Stevens is now in fourth place with the same time as the tour leader.

Tomorrows stage two sees the riders undertake a 125km road race between Masterton and Martinborough, with two sprints and one King of the Mountain climb along the way.  The USA national team will be defending their lead it will be a day for other teams to show their intentions.
