The Child Cancer Foundation will receive $1 from every Bluebridge Ferry booking throughout March in an effort to raise funds for children with cancer and their families.

Bluebridge has long been a supporter of child cancer initiatives, offering free travel for all families with a child who has cancer – as well as discounted rates for other non-immediate family members travelling with the child. In 2012, the ferry company raised $10,000 for the Child Cancer Foundation during its annual appeal.

Strait Shipping managing director Sheryl Ellison says child cancer touches many New Zealand families every year and the company is dedicated to supporting those families in need.

“Whether it’s helping out with free ferry crossings for children receiving treatment or specialist care, or fundraising to support the incredible work of the Child Cancer Foundation, Bluebridge wants to help children with cancer.”

More than three New Zealand children are diagnosed with cancer each week.  The Child Cancer Foundation aims to reduce the impact of cancer by offering services that ensure children and their families are supported, informed and well cared for at every stage of their cancer journey.

At any one time the Foundation is assisting more than 650 families across the country.  It connects with families upon diagnosis and continues to offer support, information and services in hospital, at home and in the community.

“We receive no direct government funding, so rely on the generosity of New Zealanders and on forward-thinking businesses like Bluebridge Ferries so that we can provide practical and meaningful support to families when they need it most,” says Child Cancer Foundation Wellington Business Development Manager Scott Lancaster.
