The inaugural Rockhampton River Festival is set to show Australia the other flavours of Central Queensland from July 9-12.

Long known as the Beef Capital of Australia, there are many more flavours that go into the melting pot of this multicultural and multitalented central Queensland city.

Regional Promotions Manager, Sarah Reeves said “Rockhampton has some surprising gastronomic delights that will satisfy any visitor, and we are pleased to be bringing them to the surface at the inaugural River Festival.

“Even the iconic ‘Barramundi’ is a Dharumbal Nation word for the fish that fed indigenous tribes of the Toonooba (Fitzroy) River centuries before it became a favourite dish in Australia’s best restaurants,” said Ms Reeves.

“The gourmand can therefore indulge at the Bar Ramundi Boardwalk with the Fitzroy Sampler on Friday Night and the Boardwalk Croc-tail Party on Saturday.

“We have designed an exclusive menu focused on the magnificent Fitzroy River.  Ticket holders can sample delectable cocktails including the Salty Croc, a Strawberry Cyclone or the Fitzroy Muddy Water while savouring a selection gourmet canapés, unique noodle boxes and gourmet sliders.” she said.

It is these stories that will feature on the plates of visitors to the Rockhampton River Festival, using the key ingredients of variety, quality, diversity and price points to deliver dishes that will lure all types of taste buds.

“We have also considered the budget-conscious family, so the Sandy Pauper Beach will offer a diverse line-up of caravan stalls like the beach holidays of old offering traditional Aussie BBQ items and must-have ice-creams.

“Visitors can take a trip around the world by simply strolling down a lane – Quay Lane morphs into a multi-cultural food market featuring delicious street food from across the globe,” Ms Reeves said.

“The mulit-cultural food will be served from specifically designed food charts that line the streets and brighten up the laneway

“The food will be sold from kaki lima’s that are inspired by the Balinese street food and culture.”

The consciencious food-lover can also attend the Variety Children’s Gala – a gourmet event under a magnificent Bedouin Tent.

The Rockhampton River Festival is sure to give you a new perspective on the Beef Capital of Australia.
