Grab the best view in town for Queenstown Winter Festival with Southern Discoveries

Queenstown tourism company Southern Discoveries is offering the best view in the house for next weekend’s American Express Queenstown Winter Festival opening party.

Revellers can escape the crowds by boarding the Spirit of Queenstown vessel and watching the fireworks display from a prime viewing location on Lake Wakatipu.

The ‘party within the party’ includes bubbles on arrival, live music, delicious canapés and a magical atmosphere experienced from a different perspective as excitement builds for the 41st festival.

The cruise will sail around Frankton Arm before heading back to Queenstown Bay to soak up the festivities and drop anchor for that all-encompassing view of the fireworks.

Bookings are essential with tickets available at $49 per person from Southern Discoveries and Discover Queenstown.

Southern Discoveries director of sales and marketing Julia Savill said not only did she want to give people the chance to enjoy the fireworks like never before, but also to share with locals the great facilities offered on Spirit of Queenstown.

“We really want to give Queenstown locals the chance to get out on our catamaran to experience it for themselves and see how well she’s set up for functions,” she said.

“The American Express Opening Party and Fireworks is an iconic event on the calendar and this will be the best way to enjoy every last minute.”

As a standalone venue with capacity to carry up to 120 passengers, the state-of-the-art vessel caters for off-site event options from breakfast meetings or sunset cruises with cocktails and canapés, to wine masterclasses or product launches - all with the stunning backdrop of the Remarkables mountains and idyllic alpine scenery.

The vessel has a spacious enclosed interior area with options to theme and offer on-board entertainment. Theatre-style seating can be removed with ease for various layouts, and an open top deck is ideal to capture those picture perfect photo opportunities.
