Garmin today announced HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim, the company’s first underwater heart rate monitors. Featuring compact and comfortable designs for minimal drag through the water, triathletes and swimmers can take their training to the next level with HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim. Storing up to 20 hours of heart rate data during swims, both monitors forward data on to a compatible Garmin device1 at the end of a session and send real-time heart rate to the watch when the monitor is out of the water.

“Last year we introduced our Forerunner 920XT multisport watch, our most advanced all-in-one solution for triathlon training,” said Matt DeMoss, General Manager, Garmin Australasia. “The HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim add another level for triathletes and swimmers, offering them the most comprehensive data to help them train for and achieve their goals.”

Specifically designed for triathletes, HRM-Tri is the smallest and lightest heart rate monitor from Garmin, capturing heart rate data during every leg of the race. The HRM-Tri features an easily adjustable strap with soft, rounded edges and covered seams for maximum comfort outside of the water as well, where it can provide advanced running dynamics2, including cadence, vertical oscillation and ground contact time.

With a unique, non-slip strap design, HRM-Swim is ideal for capturing heart rate while training in the pool. Durable and compact, the strap stays in place during push-offs and creates minimal drag through the water. It stores heart rate data underwater and forwards it after the swim to a connected compatible device. It will also send real-time heart rate and interval summaries when the monitor and compatible watch are out of the water during rests.

The HRM-Tri battery lasts up to 10 months and the HRM-Swim lasts up to 18 months. Following a workout or race, users can analyse their heart rate data in-depth on Garmin Connect™ and Garmin Connect Mobile, a free community where users can save, plan and share activities, use social media sharing and live track. Users can view detailed metrics of their activities, from brick workouts to pool swims, including pace, strokes, SWOLF, heart rate graphs, mapping and more.

The HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim will be available in New Zealand in August for a recommended retail price of NZD $209 for the HRM-Tri is and NZD $169 for the HRM-Swim. They will be available as an accessory bundle for NZD $309.

A special edition Forerunner 920XT Tri Bundle will also be available, which includes a black/silver Forerunner 920XT, HRM-Tri, HRM-Swim and quick release kit, for NZD $869.
