Craig Potton Joins Waikato Museum For Conservation Week

Craig Potton, New Zealand’s best known landscape photographer and an ardent conservationist will speak at Waikato Museum during Conservation Week 2015 on Wednesday 4 November.

This free event is part of a week-long celebration at the Museum which includes a  Giant Penguin Quiz, and two free craft events - Whaariki/Mat Weaving  and Conservation Crafts.

Waikato Museum Director Cherie Meecham welcomes the opportunity to be part of Conservation Week 2015.

Craig Potton’s photograph, Emperor Penguins, taken during his first trip to Antarctica in 1993, is currently on display in the exhibition Giant in the North, on now at Waikato Museum until 15 November.
A papier-mâché model of a giant penguin will become a canvas for Waikato Museum’s visitors to add their conservation messages from Wednesday 28 October.

The conservation-themed penguin will then go on display at Waikato Environment Centre’s conservation art exhibition Ko au te whenua, ko te whenua ko au. I am the land, the land is me to be held at Creative Waikato from Monday 2 – Saturday 7 November.

The theme for Conservation Week 2015 is Healthy Nature Healthy People. Waikato Museum‘s conservation Week events are presented in partnership with Trek ‘n’ Travel, Forest & Bird and the Junats (Hamilton Junior Naturalist Club).
