Former World Ironman Champion, Guy Leech is proud to present the inaugural CitroLife Guy Leech Gold Ironman race, which will take place on November 15th at Sydney’s Palm Beach. The six-leg race is open to men and women of all experience levels and will see pros and novices alike competing for glory on the sand and in the surf.

Touted as a “new age” Ironman race, the CitroLife Guy Leech Gold will be the first Ironman-style race open to both the elite of the sport as well as the general public. Competitors can race as individuals, doubles, or as part of a team as they endure soft sand running, ocean swimming, paddleboarding (on a paddleboard or SUP) and paddling (on surf-ski or kayak).

“I am so excited to give back to the sport that has been so good to me by staging this race for not only the pros, but for men and women of all ages looking to have a go and enjoy the sun, sand and surf,” said Leech, who dominated Ironman competitions during his 20-plus year career.

Commencing at 19 years of age, Leech went on to win races all over the planet; including the World Ironman title, Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Ironman, twice winning the Coolangatta Gold and snaring the Uncle Toby’s Ironman championship a whopping seven times. He also won the Australian Marathon swimming championships, represented Australia in still-water swimming and took out the World Ocean Paddling championship on his first attempt in Molokai, Hawaii.

“With $50,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs, the CitroLife Guy Leech Gold gives competitors the unique opportunity to race against some of Australia’s finest ironman athletes, past and present,” said “Leechy,” who at age 51 is teaming up with fellow Ironman alumni, Trevor Hendy, Craig Riddington and Scott Thompson, to see if they still have what it takes against today’s champs – including Cory “Chill” Hill, Matt Bevilacqua, Michael Booth and Matt Poole.  Australian Olympic Kayaking Gold Medallist, Murray Stewart is set to line up on race day as is former World Ironman Champion Phil Clayton, two time Australian Ironman Champ Dwayne Thuys and Ironman Jeremy Cotter who finished third in the Coolangatta Gold last month.

“I feel privileged to have been in the very first professional ironman race back in 1984 and fell in love with endurance racing from that moment,” said Leech. “We welcome entries from anyone over the age of 16 to this quintessentially Australian endurance event and look forward to celebrating this great sport together,” he said.
