Rickshaw Andy World Record Attempt

Nothing seems impossible with Rickshaw Andy, an extraordinary, daring cyclist who has done the unthinkable in the past to get noticed for charities. 
 
He first wowed the crowd at Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge by completing 320km on a Raleigh 3-speed and in 2014, he did the entire 160km lap on a canopied rickshaw, an absolute beast compared to its two-wheeled cousins. Not only did Andy finish the course, he also raised much-needed awareness and funds for Heart Kids.
 
There’s no stopping Andy after his debut rickshaw ride. He is going to take things up a notch this year by committing himself to another epic challenge, again to raise some serious money for Heart Kids.
 
On Tuesday 24th November just four days before the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge event, the former Extreme Enduro rider will put his beloved rickshaw to test again at the Lake Taupo Velodrome. It’s no mean feat to cycle for 24 hours, let alone on a rickshaw on sloped tracks.
 
Critics are out whether he will set a world record but Andy is a man of steely determination and he doesn’t give up easily. He was one of the few who did the inaugural Lake Taupo 1,280km Extreme Enduro, a huge ride that required an insane level of courage and determination to complete. Despite an immense pain in his neck after the lengthy ride, he battled his way to the finish line with the help of a broomstick taped to his back to hold up his head so he could continue riding.
 
When asked about his crazy world record attempt, Andy said, “It seems insane I know but it’ll be over in 24 hours, unlike heart kids whose battles are lifelong. I’m happy to do it to get Heart Kids noticed and supported.”
 
Although Rickshaw Andy will be exhausted after the world record attempt and it will take him days to recover, he will carry on and take a group of less experienced riders on Saturday 28th to finish the 160km Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge in less than 6.5 hours.
