A nationwide pet food donation drive will see Nestlé Purina PetCare providing 55,000 top quality meals to rescue dogs looking for forever homes around the country.

Bags of PURINA ONE and PRO PLAN, Purina’s highest quality nutrition, are being delivered to eight shelters spanning the length of New Zealand, which will be used for feeding those pups still waiting to be adopted.

The donation follows a campaign during the screening of ‘Purina Pound Pups to Dog Stars’, a TV series which followed the escapades of top animal trainer Mark Vette as he rescued dogs on death row, trained them into dog stars and then found them loving homes.

People who purchased a pack of Purina dry dog food while the series aired could register their purchase online and nominate a charity or shelter to give a free bag of Purina dog food to.

Purina NZ Head of Marketing Jennifer Chappell said: “As well as supporting the show, we wanted to do more to help rescue dogs – and the people who care for them. We know that finding enough food for these pups is a constant struggle, so we gave Kiwis a way to get involved and support their local rescue shelters in a way that would make sure rescue dogs are getting the best nutrition they need to be happy and healthy.”

Mark Vette, star of Purina Pound Pups to Dog Stars, is a huge advocate for dog rescue shelters and charities – it’s what the whole TV show is based around.

“We came across some incredible people at animal rescue shelters and charities while filming the show, and I cannot give them enough credit for the work they do for abandoned and abused animals. I’m thrilled that our longtime partner Purina is going the extra mile to support these guys. Providing them with quality dog food will give them one less thing to worry about and I think it’s fantastic,” Mark said.
