Mission Estate announces the long awaited release of its 2013 Huchet Syrah

New Zealand’s original winery, Mission Estate, is proud to announce the long awaited release of its 2013 Huchet Syrah. The distinctive Huchet label is reserved for the most prestigious wines from the estate, with their quality and scarcity making them keenly sought by wine enthusiasts from around the world.
 
Wines bearing the Huchet name celebrate the life of pioneering New Zealand winemaker, Brother Cyprian Huchet. Huchet was the Mission Estate Cellar Master from 1870-1899 and is regarded as a founding father of New Zealand’s wine industry.
 
Produced from organically grown fruit in the revered Gimblett Gravels region of Hawke’s Bay, the 2013 Huchet Syrah is available in very limited quantities – with only 1536 individually numbered bottles being produced.
 


Winemaker at Mission Estate, Paul Mooney, says: “We have had to wait three years to produce this wine again. 2013 is possibly the best of the exceptional summers I have experienced as a winemaker; this includes the celebrated vintages of 1983, 1989 and 1998.”
 
The launch of the 2013 Huchet Syrah follows the success of its little brother - the 2013 Jewelstone Syrah - which was judged both Best New Zealand Syrah and Best Gimblett Gravels Wine at the 2015 International Wine Challenge in London. 
 


The quality of Mission’s Syrah program is clearly resonating with consumers. Recent Nielsen scan data shows that the winery’s entry level “Estate Syrah” is the #1 selling Syrah in New Zealand grocery*, further cementing Mission’s reputation as arguably New Zealand’s most accomplished producer of this exciting variety.
 
Available late November 2015, the 2013 Huchet Syrah will available to purchase from the Mission Estate cellar door, online at www.missionestate.co.nz or from selected fine wine retailers – RRP $129.
 
2013 Huchet Syrah is drinking extremely well now, and has exceptional cellaring potential of 10-20 years.
