A Glenview family’s sparkling multi-coloured creation has been named as winner of Hamilton Christmas City’s inaugural Dec-a-Deer competition.

Last month, Hamiltonians were encouraged to pick up a free blank corflute reindeer canvas from their local library and decorate it in any way they wanted.

The 50 decorated deer were put on public display in venues around Christmas Place (as Garden Place is known over the festive season).

People were able to vote for their favourite design and the gold, silver, blue and purple glitter deer by Robyn Sellars, and daughters Zoe and Sasha Neill, topped the poll.

“It was a family effort with lots of glitter and craft supplies” says Robyn.  “We had lots of fun decorating and will definitely be looking to Dec-a-Deer again next year”.

Tracey Wood, City Events Manager, says it’s proven to be a popular initiative.

“This was our first Dec-a-Deer and we were blown away, not only by the sheer number of entries, but by the creativity and quality of the deer as well. Next year we’re going to need a bigger herd!”

The winning designers were today presented with a Christmas gift basket for their efforts.
