Napier’s iconic Soundshell has a new attraction  - a ping pong table.

Created by designer Jacob Scott and artist Jo Blogg and dubbed the Ping Pong Parlour, it has been set up at the northern end of the Soundshell.

It’s another fresh idea from the City Vision team that last year brought Napier its first “parklet” in the Napier CBD, the chill-out space Urban Oasis in Market Lane, and Pop ‘n’ Play on Emerson Street West.

It is free to play, and paddles and balls will be provided. “It’s a great way to take a break and you don’t need any special exercise gear. We expect to see some great competitions going on,” says Council Heritage Planner and City Vision team member Fleur Lincoln.

The table will be shifted out of the Soundshell during the Art Deco Festival, and late next month when re-sealing of the pavement takes place.

Creating new experiences for residents and visitors to enjoy is part of the City Vision plan instigated by Napier City Council to make the city not just functional but a fun place to be.
