The world’s most recognisable face of survival and outdoor adventure has brought survival masterclasses to Oman, operating courses from the Bear Grylls Survival Academy (BGSA) base - The Adventure Centre - a stone lodge facing the beach at the foot of 2,000m high mountains in Dibba, in Oman’s Musandam Peninsula, just a 2 hour drive from Dubai International Airport. BGSA participants are immersed in an environment of high peaks, dramatic cliffs and crags and dwarfed by giant boulders in the winding wadi beds - an utterly stunning landscape.

Grylls’ techniques of surviving the harsh outdoors in the most difficult of situations has won him a legion of fans across the globe with his acclaimed Man Vs Wild series boasting a global audience of over 1.2 billion. And the courses promise to deliver the ultimate in self-rescue skills, delivered by a team of highly trained experts handpicked by Bear Grylls.

The mountainous terrain around Dibba is the perfect setting for BGSA's 24-hour adult and 24-hour family survival courses, where participants typically find themselves pushed to their limits. Guided by BGSA experts, participants learn to survive and traverse the challenging environment.

Techniques taught include:
  • Surviving the desert sun
  • How to build and light a fire and stay safe at night
  • Purifying water
  • Dealing with wild animals
  • Rope skills
  • Using a survival knife
  • Crossing difficult terrain.

“The courses are open to everyone. However, we do ask that participants have a basic level of fitness to get the best out of the course. The courses normally run from November to April", explained Rachel Hill, Sales and Marketing Director, BGSA.

The 24-hour family course has been designed by Bear Grylls for adventurous children (aged 10-17 years) accompanied by a parent or willing adult (aged 18 years and above). The course is run by his team of highly trained experts.

“As a father of three young boys I love sharing my survival techniques and going on family adventures together", stated Bear Grylls when describing the motivation behind BGSA's Family Courses.

“The courses are designed to put participants’ new-found skills to the ultimate test. From hour one, they will be in the wilderness putting the skills to the test to see if they’ve got what it takes to survive for 24 hours until rescued,” said the academy.

"The Musandam Peninsula - Oman’s most northern tip and famed for its fjords - is vastly different to the rest of Oman with its rugged mountain peaks and dramatic landscapes. The opening of the Academy in this wilderness and its proximity to Dubai, opens up the potential for team building, incentive groups and individuals wishing to physically challenge themselves in one of the toughest grand adventures anywhere in the region”, said Mona Tannous, Country Manager Australia & New Zealand, Sultanate of Oman Tourism.
