Sculpture on the Gulf - last call for entries

The Call for Proposals deadline for the 2017 headland Sculpture on the Gulf has been extended to 5pm, 26 February 2016. It was set to officially close today but artists now have one last opportunity for their ideas to be considered, thanks to demand by artists.
 
All artists who would like to take advantage of the extended deadline must first email Kelly Carmichael (kellyc@sculptureonthegulf.co.nz) to confirm they are submitting a proposal by this date. Selected artists will subsequently be invited to submit a more detailed concept.
 
headland Sculpture on the Gulf celebrates the best of New Zealand sculpture. The biennial exhibition is New Zealand’s largest outdoor art event and it was enjoyed by more than 55,000 art lovers in 2015. In 2017 Sculpture on the Gulf also invites concepts for participatory, socially engaged or performative practice for the event.
 
The 2017 event runs from 3 to 26 February with around 30 sculptures on the two kilometre coastal route on Waiheke Island.

headland Sculpture on the Gulf proposals will be considered for final selection by the Cultural Programme Committee which includes Dr. Zara Stanhope (Auckland Art Gallery), Dr. Blair French (Museum of Contemporary Art Australia), Bruce Phillips (Te Tuhi), Linda Chalmers (Waiheke Community Art Gallery) and Kelly Carmichael (headland Sculpture on the Gulf).
 
Zara Stanhope is heading the Cultural Programme Committee for the 2017 exhibition and she brings a wealth of experience to the role. She is currently the Principal Curator and Head of Programmes at Auckland Art Gallery and was previously Senior Curator at Heide Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne.
 
Stanhope says she’s looking forward to seeing the concepts that New Zealand’s most creative artists are proposing for headland Sculpture on the Gulf 2017.
 
“Every time artists have created great works for this event. We have already received a good range of proposals in which artists have responded to aspects of Waiheke Island – including the Island’s heritage, mana whenua history, ecology, archaeology and geographic relationships, and we are looking forward to seeing more expressions from artists engaging with the exhibition’s striking coastal location. Beautiful Waiheke Island will be hosting another world class sculpture exhibition in 2017.”
