People wanting unfluoridated water will be able to fill containers from two Hamilton sites, after options were approved by Hamilton City Council’s Finance Committee today.

One tap, at Taitua Arboretum, is available for use now, while a second public tap, at Claudelands Park, will be established around the end of June.

The Taitua Arboretum site uses an existing bore, while the Claudelands tap will draw its water from the city’s reticulated supply, and use de-ionising technology to remove the fluoride.

Council’s City Waters Manager Andrew Parsons says the investigation into options was done in conjunction with members of Fluoride-Free Hamilton, and he acknowledged their support during the process. The group strongly supported the Claudelands and Taitua recommendations.

“The Taitua Arboretum tap is available now, although we’ll be making some modifications to make it easier for people to fill containers, and we’ll be installing appropriate directional and informational signage in a few weeks,” Mr Parsons says.
