POWERADE today announces its star-studded sporting line up for 2016 and its new electrolyte-charged, POWERADE ION4.

Sporting super stars Steven Adams (Oklahoma City Thunder NBA player), Kane Williamson (current NZ Sportsman of the Year, and recently named Wisden’s Leading Cricketer in the World), and Mahé Drysdale (Olympic champion rower) officially join the POWERADE ambassador team today.

POWERADE is a long-time supporter of a diverse range of Kiwi sports, and will continue its long-standing partnership with the BLACKCAPS and Silver Ferns, as well as New Zealand Investec Super Rugby teams, and Mitre 10 Cup teams – Auckland, Waikato, Wellington, Canterbury and Otago.

POWERADE also demonstrates its commitment to sporting achievements through its sponsorship of the most popular marathon events in Auckland, Rotorua, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown.

Internationally, POWERADE is also an official sponsor of Rio 2016 Olympic Games and will be supporting Mahé Drysdale in his quest for Olympic Games glory.

Adams said, “I’ve teamed up with POWERADE as I know how important hydration is for me - whether that’s through training or playing a fierce game. This new POWERADE formula replaces electrolytes which really help with my post-match hydration.”

These talented sportspeople embody POWERADE’s commitment to sporting success and demonstrate the performance and science behind POWERADE’s formulations.

Jodie Timmins, POWERADE Brand Manager states “New Zealand is a sporting nation and we have a real affinity with sport - whether we’re supporting from the sidelines, competing against ourselves, or as part of a team. We’re proud to have a relationship with some of New Zealand’s most loved sporting greats. Our new brand ambassadors and sponsorship programme reflects POWERADE’s firm commitment to sporting talent.”

POWERADE also announces the launch of POWERADE ION4, the first formulation change since 2006, with 95% more electrolytes compared to the previous POWERADE Isotonic 750ml formulation, to help replace 4 of the electrolytes lost in sweat.

POWERADE ION4 is designed to help athletes of all levels by fuelling, aiding hydration and providing electrolytes lost through sweat during prolonged or intense exercise, training or competition.

Also supporting the launch of POWERADE ION4 is the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS), who have been a long term partner of the brand.

Dr Kenneth Graham, Principal Scientist, NSWIS, said, “Fluid losses in exercise can cause an athlete to become dehydrated and reduce their performance.  POWERADE ION4 is designed to promote fluid absorption and maintain hydration.”

The electrolytes in new POWERADE ION4 are Sodium, Potassium, Calcium and Magnesium.  It also contains carbohydrates to provide energy.  Just like the previous version of POWERADE, the new formulation provides fast and effective hydration.

Timmins says “POWERADE is there every step of the way to help both professional and recreational Kiwi sportspeople reach their potential. The new ION4 formula demonstrates POWERADE’s pledge and commitment to improved performance for professional athletes and recreational exercises.”

POWERADE ION4 has the same great taste as the previous POWERADE range and will be available in 750ml PET in Mountain Blast, Berry Ice, Lemon Lime, Gold Burst, Fever Pitch and Blackcurrant flavours. POWERADE ION4 is available now nationally from most retailers.
