With much of the country in the grip of a building boom, timing couldn’t be better for the launch of a new Queenstown-based construction Quantity Surveying and Cost Management business.

QUBE consultants has been launched by Registered Quantity Surveyor Mick Moffatt, a member of the New Zealand Institute of Quantity Surveyors since 2002.

Mick says he saw the opportunity to offer his skills as an independent QS in a region that’s experiencing one of the most rapid construction growth rates in the country.

With over 25 years’ experience in the local and international construction industry, Mick is the expert in friendly, efficient, accurate and professional advice for all residential and commercial projects.

Servicing Queenstown, Christchurch, Dunedin, Wanaka, Invercargill and the lower South Island, QUBE provides feasibility and cost control from concept to final account.

“In this booming market there are plenty of opportunities out there for everyone from developers, architects, designers and contractors, or those looking to build their own home,” says Mick.

“But there are also plenty of pitfalls for those who don’t carry out full due diligence or engage an expert from the outset to provide invaluable estimates on the cost of a residential or commercial build based on historical cost patterns, current build rates and a clear understanding of market conditions.

“It can be the difference between wasting tens of thousands of dollars, or ensuring it’s financially viable and saving considerable sums for yourself or your client. It’s an invaluable service.

“We have the experience and background knowledge to manage a project from the earliest stages where the most cost savings can be made, to turning the key in the door.”

Full tendering services for contractors, sourcing and evaluating alternative design cost options and contract procurement, review and negotiation are also part of QUBE’s armoury of services.

Mick Moffatt is also a qualified Homestar practitioner, able to offer professional cost advice around achieving an energy efficient Homestar-rated home.

“We have experience in passive house build costs so we’re well placed to advise in this specialist field too. It’s a growth area for those wanting to build a sustainable, eco-friendly homes with some of the lowest power bills people have ever seen!”

And he raises a good point about building values and people protecting their biggest asset.

“In this rapidly increasing construction market I’m worried that many homeowners are under insured if something happened to their property and they had to rebuild or carry out extensive work. As a registered QS, we are very experienced in carrying out a building valuation to help rectify that.”
