If you’re gluten free, breakfast can be your most difficult meal of the day.

Well not any more. Kellogg’s is expanding its range to include for the first time gluten free versions of two of its favourite breakfast cereals – Special K Gluten Free and Corn Flakes Gluten Free.

The new products hit supermarket shelves this month answering the call for gluten free breakfast cereals that taste great and deliver the same satisfying crunch.

For sufferers of coeliac disease and gluten intolerance, the harsh reality is they often miss out on the chance to enjoy traditional breakfast cereal.

While 2016 has ushered in a wave of new food trends, the demand for gluten free alternatives continues to rise, as Kellogg NZ commercial director Will Brockbank points out.

“We continue to see a growing number of consumers, including coeliac disease sufferers, requesting gluten free alternatives of our popular cereals.

“Research conducted with current consumers of gluten free cereals also shows there is a gap in the market for products that can deliver a great taste experience that’s consistent with products containing gluten,” Brockbank says.

“That’s why we wanted to make sure our gluten-free Corn Flakes and Special K taste just as good as the original classics. We’re delighted today to be announcing these two new products to meet that demand and we’d love consumers to try them and tell us what they think on social media via #CerealouslyGlutenFree, #GlutenFreeGoodness and #KelloggsGlutenFree”.

Coeliac New Zealand general manager Carl Sunderland is right behind the launch.

“The support of brands such as Kellogg’s is vital in not only providing food options for coeliacs but also as part of a wider awareness programme – the more gluten free products on supermarket shelves the wider the awareness of the issue.

“It’s wonderful to have two Kiwi icons such as Special K and Corn Flakes as new additions and we are delighted Kellogg’s has recognised the important needs of people with coeliac disease and developed its range of gluten free cereals,” Sunderland says.

Kellogg’s Corn Flakes Gluten Free is made with 91 per cent corn, is low in fat and contains eight essential nutrients including folate, iron and zinc.

Kellogg’s Special K Gluten Free is made from 85 per cent brown rice with a very high wholegrain content and is and is a source of eight essential nutrients including folate, iron and zinc.

“We’ve heard the old adage that consumers are sick of gluten free products that taste like the cardboard box they come in,” says Brockbank. “Our new cereals are great breakfast options that save Kiwis time and keep their taste buds happy.”

Kellogg’s Corn Flakes Gluten Free is available in a 270g pack and Special K Gluten Free in 330g. They are located in the health and cereal aisles of supermarkets nationwide, priced at $4.99RRP and $6.99RRP respectively.
