Defending Champions Return for Beijing International Triathlon

IMG, the global leader in sports, fashion and media, in partnership with the Fengtai Sports Bureau of Beijing, announced the pro field set to race in the 5th annual Beijing International Triathlon, on Sunday, September 11, in the Fengtai District of Beijing, China. Defending champions Eric Lagerstrom and Lauren Goss lead the elite field of professional triathletes competing for the $100,000 purse, including Rio-bound Olympians Joe Maloy, Ashleigh Gentle, Vicente Hernandez and Barbara Riveros.
 
“The Beijing International Triathlon was one of the highlights of my season last year,” said 2015 Beijing International Triathlon Champion Eric Lagerstrom. “It was hands down the most exotic and interesting course I’ve ever raced and I can’t wait to return for another go. I’m really looking forward to another epic title-fight atmosphere!”
 
The prestigious race has become a must for professional triathletes since its inception in 2012, attracting racers from across the globe. From South America to Australia, this year’s Beijing International Triathlon will welcome pro triathletes from four continents including returning top names, as well as several new faces.

“I’m thrilled to be invited back to the Beijing International Triathlon to defend my title,” said 2015 Beijing International Triathlon Champion Lauren Goss. “I’m looking forward to embracing the Chinese culture while getting to know my fellow competitors over the week in Beijing. This is a bucket list race and I am so thankful to be heading back!”
 
This triathlon is part of the Escape to Alcatraz Triathlon Series, and the only qualifying event in Asia for the iconic Escape from Alcatraz™ Triathlon. Coveted race slots for the infamous and grueling 2017 Escape from Alcatraz™ Triathlon will be awarded to the top 50 men and women across each age group and division of the Olympic distance race, at the 2016 Beijing International Triathlon.
