The Hutt City Council Fireshow fireworks finale at this Saturday’s Petone Winter Carnival starts at 7.15pm.

This is 15 minutes earlier than previously advertised so rugby fans can enjoy the spectacular fireworks show without missing the Super Rugby final.

The fireworks will light up the sky for about 8 minutes and cap off one of the region’s largest events, attracting up to 50,000 people to Petone Esplanade.

In its 10th year, the Carnival starts at noon. Highlights include the Polar Plunge annual mid-winter swim from 1pm, the Rotary Hutt City Fire Sculptures at 6.30pm, and the fireworks at 7.15pm. There are three music and performance stages including The Hits Main Stage, free activities, and carnival rides from $1.

City Promotions Manager Brad Monaghan says for those without tickets to the Super Rugby final there are plenty of options in Petone to watch the game after the fireworks and continue the city’s Carnival atmosphere.

“Why not make a day of it? Enjoy the Carnival, watch the fireworks, then settle in at one of the many establishments on Jackson Street in Petone, less than a five-minute walk from the Carnival, screening the big match.”
