Cashmere Cat is not an easy one to pin down. Born Magnus AugustHøiberg, the elusive multi-hyphenate (producer, musician, turntablist) is as comfortable hiding behind his signature blonde hair as he is spinning behind the decks.

In 2012, he remixed for the likes of 2 Chainz, Jeremih, and Lana del Rey. That October, Belgian record label Pelican Fly released Cashmere Cat’s first EP, Mirror Maru. His glittering, jittering electronic take on 00s club hip-hop,mixed with a heavy dose of French Electro and RnB, showed the promise of an artist arriving fully-formed. The dance music community instantly took notice, with support from Hudson Mohawke, Rustie and Giles Peterson.

Pop producer Benny Blanco also took notice, inviting Cashmere to Los Angeles to collaborate on several projects and booked his first solo US shows. Eventually, he left Norway for New York to continue co-producing for artists like Lido, Wiz Khalifa and Miguel. ‘With Me’, the lead single from his second EP, Wedding Bells, premiered on Zane Lowe’s on BBC Radio One show, with its accompanying video premiering on Rolling Stone. The EP, his first physical release, was released on Lucky Me, the Glasgow-based tastemaker label. His rising profile led to several collaborations, including a featured spot on Ludacris’ single ’Party Girls’ and an ongoing working relationship with superstar Ariana Grande.

Cashmere produced ‘Be My Baby’ for Grande’s chart-topping album My Everything. He spent most of 2015 opening for her Honeymoon Tour, and Grande lent vocals to Cashmere’s next solo single ‘Adore.’

Collaborations with DJ Mustard, Ryn Weaver, and even Kanye West followed. Cashmere’s collaborative nature culminates itself in Friends Keep Secrets Records, an Interscope imprint label that allows him and Blanco to maintain their creative identity with the support of a major label.

As you read this, Cashmere’s squirreled away in the studio, putting the final touches on his debutalbum. Unconcerned with fame or even recognition, his unique sound is poised to continue pushing boundaries while having a whole lot of fun.
