New Zealanders are about to experience a new level of safety and a sense of community with the
launch of the latest technology in home security – the Ring Video Doorbell.

Home owners will be able to purchase the Wi-Fi connected Video Doorbell starting in October, and with
the free Ring app (iOS, Android, OS X and Windows 10), they can answer the door from
anywhere—whether they’re up the street or across the country. The convenient and easy-to-use home
security and monitoring device will be the first of its kind in the country.

Ring, the leader in outdoor home security in the UK and US, is launching the Ring Video Doorbell with
the aim to reduce crime in neighbourhoods and create safer communities across New Zealand.

The Ring Video Doorbell, backed by Sir Richard Branson, utilises night vision and motion sensors to
alert the homeowner of any activity on their property. Ring has proven itself to be the number one
solution for the prevention of home burglaries, but it also adds extra convenience for homeowners. For
example, the Video Doorbell’s HD video and two-way audio can be used to tell a courier where to safely
leave a delivery, to send away suspicious strangers, or to simply say “hi” to the kids when they get back
from school. For those who travel frequently or are on holiday, the Ring Video Doorbell can also offer
added peace of mind, knowing they can keep a watchful eye over their home at any time.

“We’re very excited to introduce Ring to our New Zealand neighbours. We are committed to our mission
of reducing crime in neighbourhoods, and we know that by creating a ‘Ring of Security’ around homes,
we can empower homeowners to proactively fight crime in their community,” said Jamie Siminoff, Chief
Inventor and CEO of Ring.

Not only does the Ring Video Doorbell help keep homes secure, it can also keep family members safe.
In the UK, a Ring Video Doorbell detected motion and alerted a family of a visitor at their door at 2am.
With the night vision camera, they were able to recognise their 82-year-old father, who suffers from
dementia and wandered away from his home. Within moments, he was safe with his family and back
indoors.

With the launch of the Ring Video Doorbell in New Zealand, it’s hoped home burglaries, which between
January and July 2016 stood at 42,342 compared to 36,075 for the same period in 20151 . As part of a
six-month program in conjunction with the Los Angeles Police Department, 10 percent of homes in the
Wilshire Park community installed Ring Video Doorbells, and as a result, daytime burglaries in the
district reduced by 55 per cent.

“The best bit about the Ring Neighbourhood that we set up in LA was there were no burglaries reported
where a Ring Video Doorbell was installed and it’s this peace of mind security that New Zealand home
owners will now have,” added Siminoff.
