The ground floor retail area of the recently opened Ramada Hotel & Suites is home to the latest businesses joining the new ‘Market Street’ extension of the thriving Remarkables Park Town Centre.

‘Napoli Street Pizzeria’, Loan Market Queenstown and Happy Valley Honey all occupy the ground floor of the new hotel built by established New Zealand developer Safari Group.

Napoli Street will open at the end of October, creating traditional pizzas and street food from Naples with quality local produce and ingredients imported from Italy, guaranteeing authenticity.

Alberto Calabrese, originally from Naples, and Lucia Macedo from Brazil, will open Napoli Street together with their daughters Isabella and Adriana. Experienced restaurateurs, Alberto and Lucia have been working in hospitality for 25 years and look forward to bringing an authentic Italian flavour to the local community.

“Stunning coffee and the friendly atmosphere of a family-owned business are offered and locals and visitors can dine in or take away,” said Mr Calabrese.

Loan Market Queenstown and Happy Valley Honey both opened for business in Remarkables Park Town Centre in late July this year.

A business originally established in 2004, the Loan Market Queenstown team joined the Loan Market network of 1,000 advisers across Australasia in 2014.

“We relocated our premises due to the repolarisation of the town, along with the ongoing infrastructure and significant residential development mostly heading to the eastern side of town,” said Stewart Mitchell, sole director of the Central Lakes District franchise of Loan Market.

“In downtown Queenstown traffic and parking were becoming an issue for clients so we felt our new location at Remarkables Park would address this and give us the larger premises we needed to service our growing business. Today we’re seeing around 35% of those looking for a mortgage coming to a broker and I think this is heading towards 50% over the next few years,” said Mr Mitchell.

“We see our growing business thriving within Remarkables Park given its geographically central position, easy access and future developments including the new Wakatipu High School, convention centre and planned gondola,” he added.

Happy Valley Honey is a boutique New Zealand honey producer with a range of natural honey and bee products from the hive, with a focus on health and wellbeing. Their products are carefully crafted in New Zealand and they have one of the largest ranges of products in one store, including tasting honeys, local honeys, UMF Manuka Honey, fresh royal jelly, bee pollen, propolis, bees wax, honeycomb, bee venom and skincare. Queenstown is their second concept store.

“We use only New Zealand sourced ingredients and have a full range of premium honeys and products from the hive, sourced from around the country,” said Narissa Harvey, Sales and Marketing Manager for Happy Valley Honey.

The company was established 40 years ago by New Zealand Bee Keeper and ‘apitherapy’ pioneer Ben Rawnsley and run today by two New Zealand families working together to bring the product from the hive to the table.

“Many people often think of honey as something you get from the supermarket or just spread on toast; they don’t realise the wonder of the hive and the unique benefits many hive-related products have for the wellbeing of the entire family. We combine all of those products and premium local tasting honeys in our Queenstown store and thought Remarkables Park was the perfect location for this. The great mix of international travellers to the area, and constantly growing local community make it ideal for us to showcase our products,” said Ms Harvey.

Robert Neil, Safari Group Director, said interest in the retail units at the Ramada property has been strong.

“There are many smart businesses in the area recognising the benefits of establishing, or moving, to Remarkables Park. It’s right in the geographic centre of the region, there’s more room for customers to park and there’s a lot of modern office and retail space. It’s also a destination that allows the region’s residents to achieve multiple things efficiently.”

Mr Neil said there were still retail units available for businesses who wanted to establish themselves in the growth corridor of Queenstown.

Other development in the adjacent area includes the new Wakatipu High School being built as the result of an innovative Government Public Private Partnership. It’s scheduled to relocate from central Queenstown to Remarkables Park Town Centre in January 2018, with capacity for up to 1,200 students.

Painting a scenario for the future, Remarkables Park Limited Chief Executive Alastair Porter said “it really won’t be long until parents can drop kids at high school, go to work, do weekly shopping on the way back to collect the kids from school, or an after school activity in the Entertainment Precinct, and enjoy dinner in a family restaurant; all without leaving Remarkables Park Town Centre.”
