Queenstown’s premier lakefront hotel, Crowne Plaza Queenstown, has bought an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to support Queenstown’s community.

Widely known as Queenstown’s chic, friendly and cosmopolitan downtown hotel and the perfect ski base, Crowne Plaza Queenstown welcomes thousands of guests to the hotel each month.

The new defibrillator will be accessible for hotel guests and listed as a shared community device for public use.

Crowne Plaza Queenstown General Manager Reinier Eulink said the life-saving equipment was a welcome addition to the hotel and community.

“The purchase is a great asset to our property,” he said. “Having an AED available could one day help save a guest or visitor’s life.”

“Thousands of guests visit our hotel each month, in addition to hundreds of delegates each year from large conferences to incentive groups and meetings.

“It’s important that an AED should be in easy reach as it could one day prove the difference between life and death.”

The AED is fully portable, lightweight, versatile and easy to master. A first aider with minimal training can potentially save the life of a co-worker, friend, family member or member of the public.

According to St John, each year more than 2,000 New Zealanders will suffer a cardiac arrest outside of hospital. Use of an AED within three to five minutes of collapse can increase the chance of survival by up to 40%.

“From 2017, purchasing an AED will be an IHG brand standard so globally we can make a difference to a family,” said Mr Eulink.

St John New Zealand is actively promoting the growth of a network of AEDs for public use, through major employers and community organisations across New Zealand.
