Artists Open Studios 2017

Artists Open Studios 2017

28 October 2016, 5:24PM
Whanganui & Partners

The 2017 Artists Open Studios event based out of the Glass Capital of New Zealand offers a diverse taster of Whanganui’s constantly expanding arts community from glass, painting, photography, ceramics, textile artists and everything in between.

2017 will mark Artists Open Studios' 16th year and is set to be its sharpest yet. For the first time the
opportunity to learn from the artists themselves is offered as Artist Led Workshops and Gallery Floor Talks join the two Open Studios weekends. Extend your stay and discover the magical world of traditional darkroom photography techniques with Rita Dibert or make your own print to take home with Sue Cooke and this is just a couple to whet the appetite.

You’ll see art brought to the forefront of the event with the 2017 Artist Catalogue replacing the Trail
Guide. Professional photography, larger images and the art as our focus creates a jaw dropping catalogue that will become a year-long resource for art collectors looking to find their ultimate piece here in Whanganui. A piece of art will adorn the front cover judged by nationally renowned judges, Adrian
Hailwood & Billy Apple in Artists Open Studios first ever Cover Competition.

Whanganui is known for its cultural, historical and creative spirit and is fast becoming known as the Arts
Destination of New Zealand; we believe Artists Open Studios is testament to that fact. Let us show you an insider’s view to what it looks like to work as an artist in Whanganui and open yourself up to meeting
like-minded others along the way to create lasting new friendships.
