At 8.20am this morning, Oska Inkster-Baynes, 25, ran down the home straight at a time of 2.20.36 to win the ASB Auckland Marathon and in doing so, also gave 12 lucky families a head start in the race towards home ownership.

Not only did Oska secure the top spot on the podium in his first full marathon race, he also gifted 12 families a life-changing marathon-inspired home loan rate based on his winning time.

The ASB Auckland Marathon ‘Run Down The Rate’ campaign, saw ten Kiwis given a market-leading home loan rate to match the winning time at the ASB Auckland Marathon. In addition, with the help of the bank’s charity partner Starship, ASB selected a further two families with children at national children’s hospital, Starship, to also receive the super-low rate.

The 2016 Run Down The Rate (RDTR) winners were joined by their families at Victoria Park to cheer Oska Inkster-Baynes across the line and to bring in their new home loan rate.

The winners are:  Anita Goodman (Hamilton), Anne Williamson (Christchurch), Carmen Mountain (Auckland), Jane Hossack (Christchurch), Kate Haywood (Auckland), Kayla Janssen (Christchurch), Kevin Hardie (Auckland), Melanie Johnson (Hamilton), Simon Watson (Auckland) and Stephen Rowe (Lower Hutt).

Each of the twelve RDTR recipients will potentially save themselves up to $23,683 in home loan interest repayments*.

ASB Executive General Manager Marketing and Communications, Roger Beaumont says there has been much to celebrate at the 2016 ASB Auckland Marathon yesterday. “Running a marathon is a significant achievement on its own, and this year it’s been terrific to extend the excitement beyond the race to people across New Zealand, through Run Down The Rate. We are thrilled for Oska, but equally pleased that his race time can become a market-leading home loan rate for 12 families,” Mr Beaumont says.

The 10 RDTR recipients come from around the country; four from Auckland, three from Christchurch, two from Hamilton and one from Lower Hutt. Winners will benefit from the super-low rate in their own way, some are yet to get on the property ladder and it may be the boost they need to make the first step, others will be getting a reprieve from existing repayments.
