This November sees Ponsonby’s hippest bar, MR TOMS, blowing out the candles to celebrate its first birthday. Since opening doors a year ago the contemporary bar has steadily grown in popularity and now boasts a booming 7 day a week trade from midday until late.

Situated on the ‘sunny side of the street’ it has fast become known for its busy outdoor tables and its sunny interior. The mood in MR TOMS is light and bright, with soft wooden features, an abundance of leafy plants and friendly, welcoming staff. As day turns to night the bar welcomes a savvy after work crowd that enjoys many an Asahi Beer and expertly mixed cocktail.

“We are really proud of the vibe we’ve created at MR TOMS. We have a solid mix of Ponsonby locals, business people and late night audience. We try to cater for a wide range of tastes, but at our core we are about bringing good people together in a really warm and fun environment,” says Future Bars Co-Director, James Ace.

MR TOMS has a late license until 3am, which makes it one of the few late night venues on Ponsonby Road. Regular features at MR TOMS include DJ’s on a Friday and Saturday night; their hugely popular Sunday Sessions with Laughton Kora; Lewis Road Creamery Cocktails; Summer Strawberry Frozes;  Mumm Champagne promotions and even mid-week dating specials that target the ‘Tinder’ audience.

“Our clientele are really solid social media and online users, so we do a lot of communications and promotions on our social channels. In the last 12 months we have grown our Facebook page to over 2,000 likes and we have a ‘4.8 out of 5’ rating review on Facebook, which says a lot about our guests enjoyment of MR TOMS,” explains James Ace.

In August 2016 ‘The Kitchen’ Bistro Restaurant was launched as a unique offering to sit alongside MR TOMS. Head Chef Tom Williamson has created a delicious A La Carte menu that caters to the desires of their busy urban guests, looking for an affordable yet delicious food offering in Ponsonby. The intimate restaurant has a warm inviting feel, with low hanging tungsten bulbs, a homely nautical theme and the signature greenery the venue is known for. The Kitchen seats 40 people for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday nights and features a popular $59 three course menu.
