Take off those rose-coloured glasses and slip into a new frame of mind - new research commissioned by Sunglass Hut reveals the style of your sunglasses could be holding Kiwis back from meeting their perfect match.

Research shows more than a third of Kiwi men (33%) will ditch a date due to bad sunglasses, proving the style of sunglasses worn are an influential factor in first impressions from prospective suitors.

Further highlighting the alluring effect of sunglasses, 25% of Kiwis see a potential match as more fashionable when they’re wearing a ‘stylish’ pair of shades, while 20% feel they can gauge a person’s sense of style simply by the type of sunglasses they are sporting.

With almost 1 in 3 millennials actively using online dating platforms (28%), 39% of Kiwis are more likely to ‘swipe right’ on a potential date based on the sunglasses they are wearing in their profile picture. With 36% of women more likely to wear sunglasses when taking selfies, this tactic could prove to be very effective!

With 2 in 5 Kiwis (38%) admitting they are more likely to dress for a romantic other, Sunglass Hut senior buyer Alexandra Kerr says it’s important to choose the right frame for the right occasion.

“Sunglasses really are the ultimate fashion accessory to do complete an outfit, whether you’re going to the beach, bar or even on your online dating profile,” Kerr says.

“The two biggest trends we see this season are round lenses and double-bridged frames. Round glasses have made a huge come back in fashion in a very modern way and they are currently the most sought after style. The double-bridge at the top of the sunglass is another recent trend that creates a larger, bolder and more fashion-forward frame. Follow this lead and its the perfect way to set you apart on dating apps, intrigue a potential match and set sparks flying this Valentine’s Day!”
