MUSCLE MILK® Brand Continues as Title Sponsor of MUSCLE MILK® Collegiate Escape

SAN FRANCISCO (April 20, 2017) – IMG, a global leader in sports, events, media and fashion, today announced the return of the MUSCLE MILK® and CYTOMAX® brands as official sponsors for the 2017 and 2018 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. The industry leaders in high performance nutrition that share the same parent company in CytoSport, Inc. will join Actelion and Sierra Nevada as official sponsors for this year’s race set to take place on Sunday, June 11.

“We’re proud to be a part of one of the most challenging and iconic triathlons in the country,” said Josh Mohr, Vice President of Consumer Marketing for CytoSport, Inc. “Recovery plays a key role in such an intense competition, and we’re excited to provide our shakes and debut our new MUSCLE MILK® protein bars at this year’s race.”

The MUSCLE MILK® brand will be the official protein enhanced recovery beverage and protein bar for the race, while CYTOMAX® products will be the official isotonic beverage. Both brands will provide bars and beverages to the 2,000 triathletes set to complete this year. Additionally, triathletes and their families are invited to check out the latest products from the MUSCLE MILK® brand and CYTOMAX® brand at the Fitness Festival & Expo during race weekend.

Additionally, the MUSCLE MILK® brand will continue to be the title sponsor of the MUSCLE MILK® Collegiate Escape. For the fourth straight year, undergraduate and graduate student triathletes will compete on behalf of their college or university in teams of five. All participants will be scored in their respective race division, but only three of the times will be counted towards the team’s overall time. The collegiate team with the fastest averaged combined time will win the MUSCLE MILK® Collegiate Escape. Participating schools include Stanford University, University of California, Berkeley and University of Texas.

Top triathletes from around the world will take over the streets and waters of San Francisco for the 2017 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. Showcasing the beauty of San Francisco, triathletes will embark on a grueling 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the shoreline of Marina Green, an 18-mile twisting bike ride through the Presidio, and an eight-mile trail run out to Baker Beach and up the infamous 400-plus step Sand Ladder. Fans can experience the excitement at the Marina Green, where the swim exit, athlete transition area and finish line are easily visible. This bucket list triathlon will draw 2,000 racers from around the world, including 2016 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Champion Holly Lawrence.
