As part of the company’s commitment to growing the Atkins LIFT brand in the Australian market, Atkins Nutritionals, the original low-carb living experts, has appointed Australian Olympian and world-class triathlete Ryan Fisher as its new brand ambassador.

The move comes after the recent launch of LIFT – a delicious new range of high-protein, low-carb sports bars – were introduced to the local market targeting fitness enthusiasts seeking a protein-packed snack without the high-sugar carbohydrate content of many of the current bars on the market.

A talented soccer player, surfer, swimmer and cross-country competitor, Queensland native Ryan was a late-comer to the sport of triathlon, but made an immediate impact, quickly rising to the top of the sport in Australia and gaining automatic selection into the Olympic team based upon his stellar performances.
Besides fulfilling his innate competitive spirit and providing plenty of opportunity to travel, Ryan believes the outdoor nature of triathlon makes the sport particularly appealing to him, tying in with his passion for a healthy, outdoor lifestyle.

Ryan’s food philosophy is a sustainable one, in which he eats healthily most of the time, but indulges in sweet treats from time to time, generally favouring fruit and yoghurt as a morning snack and enjoying a LIFT bar as a post-training pick-me-up or mid-afternoon snack.

Available in three distinct, delicious flavours – Peanut Caramel, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Chocolate Almond – LIFT bars have been specifically created to deliver sustained energy for active lifestyles, as well as optimal muscle recovery during or post-workout and have earned a full five stars from the Australian Government’s new Health Star Rating System[i].

With an intensive training schedule that includes two to three sessions a day – plus a slow Sunday coastal run on his day off – Ryan can find it hard to fit in enough meals to keep up the pace. “I find it hard to eat much after training or a competition, but my body needs something, so a protein bar on the go is the ideal solution to aid my recovery and keep me satisfied – the Atkins LIFT Choc Chip Cookie Dough flavour is my current favourite - filling and delicious!”

“With 21 grams of high quality whey and milk protein in every serve – together with less than 4.5 grams of carbs - LIFT bars are the perfect workout aid to enjoy on-the-go, whether cycling, swimming, running, surfing or simply making the most of an active lifestyle,” Ms Linda O’Byrne, Nutritionist (BSc) at Atkins Nutritionals, and ISSA certified in Fitness Nutrition & Sports Nutrition.

Ideal for snaking on-the-go, LIFT bars:

· Contain no maltitol, erythritol or palm oil

· Are an excellent source of fibre

· Have 21 grams of high-quality whey and milk protein

· Have only 2 grams of sugar per 60g serve

· Have only 4.5g of carbohydrates per 60g serve

· Are gluten and soy free

With career highlights to date including a World Cup win, competing in the green and gold at the Rio games and recently winning the Coffs Harbour Triathlon in record time, Ryan is currently training for next year’s Commonwealth Games – an event he can’t wait to compete in in front of a homegrown crowd – and for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

As for advice for up-and-coming athletes, Ryan says it’s important to try to forget about the pressure to perform and remember why you got into the sport in the first place – and to hold onto your personal passion for what you’re doing.

The Atkins LIFT range is available from Woolworths supermarkets, Chemist Warehouse outlets, Priceline pharmacies and National Pharmacies. RRP $4.00 per bar.
