The Great Southern Endurance Run is a 181km ultramarathon running race through Victoria’s High Country from Mt Buller to Bright taking place from 17 to 19 November.

The race is like no other in the southern hemisphere with runners taking on varied and undulating terrain. The course uses the Australian Alps Walking Track and related trails, sporting over 10,000m of ascent and 11,000m of descent.

Eager runners will brave the early hours of Friday morning, setting off from the Mt Buller Village Square at 5am, and ending on Sunday at Howitt Park in Bright. There is also an 81km alternative course from Mt Buller to Lake Cobbler.

It is the most difficult yet scenic mountain run attempted in Australia, and is intended to be an equivalent of iconic Northern Hemisphere mountain 100 mile runs like the Ultra Trail Mt Blanc, Ultra Trail Mt Fuji and the Hardrock Hundred of Colorado.

Gillian Dobson, Group Manager of Marketing, Sales and Events for Mt Buller Mt Stirling Resort Management says, “Mt Buller is excited to be a part of the Great Southern Endurance Run. It really is a unique event in Australia that will challenge even the most seasoned runner, and we’re pleased to include it in our packed summer events calendar.”
