Back for the third year running, the annual Dove Pink Star Walk will take place on Saturday 11th October 2008 beneath a star-lit Auckland sky, and this year promises to be bigger, better and pinker than ever before.

In support of The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, this fun 5km charity walk is open to men, women and children of all ages and begins at 8.00pm with the beautiful Auckland Domain illuminated pink for the occasion.

Proceeds from the event will help to fund research for prevention and cure, whilst acknowledging the 2,500 women who are diagnosed with and the 600 women who die of breast cancer each year in New Zealand. Last year saw over 2,500 people participate in the Dove Pink Star Walk, which raised over $40,000 for The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.

As an uplifting symbol of hope participants will be encouraged to decorating and wearing their very own wings - and to make it easier a pattern of the wings will be included in every event registration pack.

It promises to be a night to remember, with prizes for the best pink outfit, goody bags, a spectacular pink fireworks display and a special performance by Annabel Fay to cheer people on to the finish line.

Heather Shotter, Executive Trustee of The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, says the good news is that more than 80% of women diagnosed now survive breast cancer, however as the exact cause is unknown it is vitally important for everyone to minimise their risk and understand the life-saving benefits of early detection.

“Ongoing education to inform women how to reduce their personal risk of breast cancer and the importance of early detection, as well as research into ways to prevent and cure breast cancer are essential.”

To enter the event, people can log onto www.dovepinkstarwalk.co.nz, fill in the entry form on-line and pay the registration fee (different fees apply for adults, children, senior citizens etc). Once registered, all walkers will receive an event registration pack containing all event and route information, a wing pattern as well as pink items to wear on the night.

The Dove Pink Star Walk is also being held in Sydney on Saturday 25th October 2008.
