Special Guests to Open the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival

Celebrating our own ‘slice of heaven,’ the American Express Opening Party and Fireworks will kick start this year’s Festival with an official opening from New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, performances from rock icon Jordan Luck and a superb fireworks display this Friday (24 June).

Festival Director Simon Green said The Opening Party is always a highlight of the American Express Winter Festival providing an opportunity for local people and visitors to rub shoulders in a fabulous street party.
“This is an all ages event where people can meet, eat and dance together. We’re delighted to welcome the Prime Minister – who’s also the Minister of Tourism – once again and of course, Jordan Luck is a festival favourite. The festival, and particularly the Opening Party, is a superb opportunity to celebrate and showcase the town's unique culture and community,” he said.

 

Queenstown’s Winter Festival is a celebration of all things winter which has grown from humble beginnings in 1975 into the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest winter party.
Tens of thousands of locals and visitors are expected to take to Queenstown’s streets and ski slopes and participate in heaps of on-mountain action, outrageous, fun and glamorous events from street parties, parades and fireworks to live concerts, comedy and theatre.
Now an iconic event cemented on New Zealand’s event calendar, Winter Festival attracts 30,000 attendees and injects a whopping $50 million back into the local economy.
