The 49th annual Across the Lake Swim is just one week away and there is still time to enter one of the three events.

Taupo’s longest running event is being held is being held next Saturday 25 February.  Online registrations at www.acrossthelakeswim.co.nz will be available until Wednesday 22 February.  Entries will also be available on Friday 24 February at the Great Lake Centre from 5.00pm – 7.00pm (there will be no entries on the day).

This year there is an event for everyone in the family to choose from including a 1km beginner loop, a 2km intermediate loop (both starting and finishing at Three Mile Bay) and the traditional 4.2km option (starting at Acacia Bay and finishing at Three Mile Bay) – a great warm up for the upcoming Ironman.

The safety of participants is crucial so organisers are reminding swimmers that everyone will require a wetsuit on the day.  Organised support crews in powerboats will be out on the water keeping a close eye on swimmers and individual support people in kayaks are also encouraged.

Food and drinks will be available after the event and a prize giving will be held with a range of spot prizes up for grabs.

The Lake Taupo Across the Lake Swim started back in 1963 with thousands of swimmers taking part over the years.  This iconic Taupo Event is organised by the Taupo Moana Rotary Club and AC Baths and any proceeds from the day will go towards promoting water safety in the region.  The event provides those competing in the Ironman the opportunity to have a training run and makes up part of the Erin Baker, Cameron Brown and TriTaupo 4 awards.
