It proved six of the best for the two top performances Paige Schendelaar-Kemp and Sophia Batchelor on the penultimate night of finals at the Mayfair Pools New Zealand Age Group Swimming Championships in Wellington tonight.

The 13 year old Schendelaar-Kemp from Howick Pakuranga club in Counties Manukau and 16 year old Batchelor from Aquagym club in Christchurch have both win six titles, collecting three between them at the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre tonight.

Schendelaar-Kemp won her age group in the 100m butterfly while Batchelor claimed victories in the 50m backstroke and 100m butterfly. The Canterbury star, coached by Leanne Speechley also earned her 21st national age group record when she clocked 29.41 in winning the 50m backstroke. This edged under the 2006 record of Commonwealth Games representative Emily Thomas of 29.58.

Batchelor was not able to make it 22 records, winning the 100m butterfly in 1:00.38, outside her age group and national open record of 59.48s.

Other to go close to records tonight were Bobbi Gichard (Greendale) and Gabrielle Fa’amuina (Laser Mt Eden) who were first and second in the 12-13 years 50m backstroke in 30.65s and 30.79s respectively, a touch outside the national age group mark also held by Thomas of 30.51.
