BikeNZ has appointed Auckland’s Jane Patterson as Event Director of the 2013 UCI BMX World Championships to be staged in the city next July.

Patterson owns and runs The Patter Ltd which provides the management of a number of high profile events including Ironman New Zealand and the Port of Tauranga Half, and she was the CEO of the highly successful 2007 Netball World Championships in Auckland.

The company also owns and runs a number of grass roots level women’s only multisport events under the REAL brand.

Since taking up the position last month, Patterson has been focussing on the strategic business and operations plan for the event and attended the recent BMX Supercross World Cup in California with key New Zealand BMX figures where she held a series of meetings with UCI and industry officials.

She is currently in Birmingham with a small team at this week’s world championships where they will market the Auckland event and complete key planning meetings with the world body. They are keen to look at the logistics involved in an indoor venue at Birmingham, with the Auckland event to be staged at Vector Arena.

“I am really excited to be on board with this event. I was fortunate enough to attend the national championships in Rotorua and I love the passion and family values of the sport,” Ms Patterson said.

“We have some very good people involved for the event and we are making some excellent progress. There are some exciting developments that we will share in the near future.”
