Snyders Back on Podium in World Cup Swimming

London Olympian Glenn Snyders produced a strong performance to claim another medal at the FINA Arena World Cup swim meet in Berlin today.

Snyders, 24, from the North Shore club, clocked an excellent 57.89s to finish second in the 100m breaststroke, a strong return after suffering from a virus earlier in the week.

It is his ninth medal in the world cup over the opening five meets in Dubai, Doha, Stockholm, Mowcow and Berlin, and just outside the New Zealand short course record he set at the same meet last year.

Snyders started conservatively to be fourth at the midway mark before powering home in 31.07 to be only 17/100ths of a second behind the winner, Olympic finalist Fabio Scozzoli (Italy),

Meanwhile fellow Swimming New Zealand High Performance Centre swimmer Melissa Ingram had to settle for fourth in the women’s 400m freestyle.

She also started conservatively to be seventh early before working her way through the field to clock an excellent 4:05.47, only 26/100ths of a second off third place.

The race was dominated by Olympic 400m champion Camile Muffat (France) who produced a stunning performance to win in 3:54.93, just 1/100th of a second off the world record and the fastest time this year by two seconds.

The world cup moves to the final three meets in Asia starting in Beijing next week, followed by Tokyo (6-7 November) and Singapore (10-11 November).

They will be joined by fellow North Shore club swimmers Matthew Stanley, Mitchell Donaldson and Dylan Dunlop-Barrett along with coach Scott Talbot for the Asia meets.
