Anchor Fast Start Liquid Breakfast today announced plans to team up with High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ), NZ sprint champion, Sam Webster, and World Short Course Swimming Champion, Lauren Boyle to help fuel the dreams of Kiwi athletes.

As part of the partnership, Anchor Fast Start and HPSNZ will collaborate on an initiative called Team up for a Fast Start.  Anchor Fast Start senior product manager, Kylie Jillings, explains the Team Up promotion will invite athletes or teams of any sporting code to nominate themselves to win a training session hosted by HPSNZ coaches, trainers and nutritionists, and featuring guest appearances by Sam Webster and Lauren Boyle.

“Team up for a Fast Start will offer sports people and teams a chance to ‘walk in the shoes of an elite athlete’ through an HPSNZ training experience.  The idea is to show Kiwi athletes what it takes to reach the very top level, from the right attitude to the required training regime and the necessary nutrition requirements.  HPSNZ’s experts in coaching, training and nutrition will run training sessions for selected athletes or teams, offering encouragement and inspiration to aim high with their sporting dreams,” says Jillings.

HPSNZ Chief Executive Alex Baumann says: “It is great to have the support of Anchor Fast Start Liquid Breakfast for our elite athletes and to work with them on Team up for a Fast Start.   Dairy products form an important part of a high performance athlete’s nutrition plan.  The support of Anchor Fast Start will allow our athletes to access quality dairy nutrition in our athlete facilities and it signals to younger athletes the importance of healthy nutritional choices.”

HPSNZ Lead Performance Nutritionist Jeni Pearce says nutrition is an important part of sporting performance and she believes Team up for a Fast Start creates an opportunity to highlight this, especially to young people.

“Eating well is a critical part of the fuelling, training and recovery for any athlete. Poor nutrition, such as skipping breakfast, not eating a quality lunch or insufficient fuelling for training sessions are common practices in younger age groups.  Many young people are very active and would benefit from improving their breakfast. Milk-based protein drinks, such as Anchor Fast Start, can be a good option for anyone who is active and particularly for replacing nutrients and fluid after training.  It’s often forgotten that milk assists with fluid balance, as it’s a liquid,” she says.

Lauren Boyle, World Short Course Swimming Champion, agrees, saying:  “With my demanding training programme, I’m churning through food at record speed and I’m constantly pressed for time.  Anchor Fast Start Liquid Breakfast is a staple in my training bag - good to grab for my early starts, and they keep me going in the afternoon for my later trainings.  It also tastes great, which is a bonus!”

Sam Webster, NZ Sprint Cycling Champion states that: "Anchor Fast Start fits in perfectly with the nutritional demands of sprint training, which makes it a good option for both pre and post training. It’s also a great way to get a good protein source in the mornings to get me ready for the day”.

Team up for a Fast Start will launch at the beginning of Term 4.
