Red Bull Can You Make It? will be the adventure of a lifetime in April this year.

100 teams from 27 countries around the world will be tasked the mind and body challenge of travelling over 1000 kilometres across Europe. The catch is, they only have seven days and can only use Red Bull cans as currency.

Teams won’t be allowed to use cash or credit cards. Instead, they’ll master the art of trading cans of Red Bull in exchange for transportation, food and lodging. All teams including the single team chosen from New Zealand will start from one of the four starting points in London, Paris, Milan and Vienna.

In preparation the international event, New Zealand announces its own local competition. Today, six teams have been selected to participate in the Red Bull Can You Make It? New Zealand event. Between February 14 to February 17, six teams of three will travel from Auckland to Dunedin to arrive in time for the country’s biggest university celebration; the Otago University O-week. The selected teams are from Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch, but all will be ready to start their first challenge at Auckland’s Silo Park at 7am on February 14.

“I entered our team because we thought it would be a bit of a laugh” says Hamilton team member Cameron Dickson. “I hope we don’t get stuck anywhere, and we make it all the way down to Otago in one piece!”

Teams will have just four days to travel over 1400 kilometres from the starting point to the finish line. Along the way, teams create their own route by visiting checkpoints in Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington and Christchurch. Teams will complete mystery challenges at each checkpoint to earn cans for the next leg of the race.

Anyone can follow teams’ progress on the Facebook event page. Here, teams will be posting photos and videos of their journey, and rallying support from followers back home.

It’s a journey of wits, adventure and strategy. The team that arrives at Otago University first will be crowned the Red Bull Can You Make It? New Zealand champions! Local prizes include one year’s supply of Red Bull, $1,500 cash, a VIP experience at OUSA O Week and more.

University students over 18 years of age are eligible to apply for the international competition in April held in Europe at www.redbullcanyoumakeit.com. Applications are open until March 12. Follow our New Zealand competition from February 14 – 17 on the Facebook event page here.
